The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram shows the process of generation of electricity using geothermal energy. The process can be outlined in five consecutive steps.
In the first step, cold water from various sources is pumped down in the ground through the distance of 4.5 kilometres. The cold water is made to pass through the injection well, from which it is lead towards the geothermal zone. This step is of extreme importance as the temperature of water is raised here with the help of underground hot rocks. In the third step, hot water is pumped up, through the same distance as it was pumped down, after passing through the production well.
In the subsequent stage, hot water is condensed by a condenser to release steam. The steam is used to rotate the turbine which finally produces electricity in the generator and is further carried to the electricity towers.
Overall, the main steps involved in this whole process is pumping the water up and down using electric motors and rising the temperature of water using hot rocks. The rest work is done by the steam generated by hot water.
