28.5.2022: The graph shows the average Japanese month salary (Yen) from 1953 to 1983, and the prices of black and white televisions and color televisions during the same period.
The line graph gives information about the average monthly income of Japanese people, and the costs of white and black, and color television over 30 years period.
In general, the average salary in Japan rose, while the price of two types of television experienced a significant drop. During the period, the costs of both types of televisions were higher than Japanese earnings.
The price of the black and white box set was the highest figure in 1970 and higher than these of color TVs, at 110,000 Yen. Over 10 years later, the cost of black-white TVs saw a dramatic fell of 70,000 Yen and then went on gradually dropping to about 20,000 Yen in 2000.
At the beginning of the period, the Japanese earned only nearly 20,000 Yen each month which is much lower than the costs of TVs. Their income continually increased between 1980 and 1995, at 20,000 and 32,000 Yen respectively. It overtook the price of black and white televisions, before soaring to nearly 70,000 Yen in 2000.
