It can clearly be seen that the housing was the most popular consumer goods, whilst healthcare and clothing were the least popular consumer goods amongst surveyed countries in 2009.
The biggest slice of the expenditure is taken up by housing, which made up 25% of people in the US, 20% of Canadian, 23% for British and 22% for Japanese. In this year, Japanese citizens have spent almost the double the amount on food of those in the transportation (food of over 23% and 10% for the transportation). The remaining countries have showed the similar spending habits; around 15% on food and around 15% to 20% on transportation.
The average of 10% of expenditure was generated for the health care and clothing sectors. The US citizens remained significantly higher expenses on the health care of over 5% than for the other countries over this time frame (same amount for Japan and Canada of approximately 4% and around 2% of Britain). The rest of countries have the similar spending shares on clothing of around 5%.
