The number of refrigerators and vacuum cleaners increased dramatically to 100 percent in 2000 and stayed unchanged for the next 20 years, while the number of washing machines fluctuated between 40 percent and 75 percent in the period from 1920 to 2019. Only in 1960 did washing machines and vacuum cleaners meet each other in the amount of ownership at 70 percent. In a comparison with the proportion of households owned, a contrast trend was described in the time people doing housework. The amount of time of housework witnessed a significant decline from 50 hours per week to 15 hours per week for the first 60 years, before a stability at 15 hours for the following 20 years.
