The reading and the lecture are both about a mysterious book called Voynich manuscript which was written on vellum and found around sixteen century. More specifically, in regard to the passage, the writer presents three theories about who wrote this book. The lecturer disputes the claims made in the article. His position is that none of the people how stated by the author did wrote the book.
First and foremost, the author of the reading states this book has some sientific or magial topics. The article mentions that Ascham maybe the author because there is a resemblance between the plants in this book and Ascham's book. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that Ascham was a physician but, his works in his book were not from his original ideas. Additionally, he points out that his book Herbal was known for the sources from the other books or writers, so from this knowledge he is not the writer.
Secondly, the author suggests the texts in the book are without benifet and it may refrenced to Kelley who took money from luxcury people by present some magical power. In the article it is said that Kelley made this book to sell it to people without ordering text to make unconscious about its meanings. Again, the speaker specifically addresses this point when he states people in the sixteen century were not so smart to make this effort to sell the book for them. He goes on to say that he can make a simple manuscript and sell it.
Finally, the author brings his argument to a close by suggesting that Voynich the man how sell the books is the author of the book, because of his experience in this field he can easly imitate any book and sell it. Not surprisingly, the professor takes issue with this claim by conteneding that from ink and volen it seems the book was written before 1400 years. He notes that if Voynich made the book he can take pages from other books, but he can not fake the ink on the manscript, Also the book written centuries brfore Voynich found it.
