Some teachers prefer group study methods for their students while others prefer the individual learning method. Which one do you prefer? Discuss the benefits of group study and individual learning.
Teachers often counsel their students on how to study effectively. Some teachers believe that studying with a group is the best approach, while others suggest studying alone. In my experience, I found that one method is more suited than the other in certain scenarios.
If preparation time is short, then one needs to effectively allot their time in order to cover as many topics as one can. In such case, focus and concentration are important. In individual study, one can easily control their environment to limit external distractions, thus allowing one to concentrate better in their study. Also, studying alone allows better pacing of one’s study time, unlike in a group where one has to adjust according to their group’s pace. This may prove to be counterproductive given the limited amount of time.
In cases where the scope of the exam is much wider, then group study is more advantageous. In such exams, having numerous study materials may give one an upper hand. Pooling of resources in a study group allows a student to have access to review materials that may not be available if one choose to study alone. Also, in examinations that test skills, it is practical to practice in a group that can help one improve their techniques.
In conclusion, one should consider all aspects in determining which study method to employ. As stated, one technique may be more appropriate than the other in certain situations. In my opinion, individual study is more apt if review time is short, while group study is more suitable in wide scope exams and in examinations that tests one’s skills.
