The article states that there are some ways to solve the extinction of Torreya Taxifoha and provide three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that none of these ways is successful solution to prevent decline of Torreya and refute each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading state that returning Torreya to the same location where it survived for a long time, it needs to survive microclimate which used to be found in Northrend part of Florida, This microclimate is wetter and cooler than the surrounding region that helps the Torrey to survive thousand of years. The professor refutes this point, he states that the microclimate areas are strongly affected by the change of the climate; it could be because of the global warming and wetness of Florida that leads the Torreya not survive for a long time and anywhere.
Second, the article claims that moving the Torreya to completely different location, when the human would simply be helping Torreya return to an environmental again which is known as assisted migration. Torreya seeds have been grown and planted in forest further North Florida. However, the professor states that assisted migration has a negative effect on the environment, causes extinction many plants. When the human helped another plant like Black Locus Tree to relocate north that causes extinction and killing of many original trees.
Third, the reading claims that retaining the Torreya in the research center, so, the scientists can protect the species and conduct research on Torreya. The professor says that this claim is problematic; he explains that research center is not the solution since they are captured in the center and can not resist the diseases. To survive the diseases, it needs to be large and genetic diverse. The research center can not provide these characters to them. So, they can not survive the diseases.
