The passage talks about the reasons why the wood companies in America will not be interested in adopting the new ecological friendly practices and to receive ecocertification like other international companies. However, the professor does not concur with the ideas presented in the passage and justifies his belief by following indications.
First, the reading says that the American consumers do not give much weight age to the advertisements and that is why companies will not be able to lure them by receiving ecocertification. To contraindicate this speaker tells that it is not true. American consumers do not treat all the advertisements same, in fact they have confidence in independent organizations and determine the importance of ecocertification and many of the customers will be interested in buying these woods and help in preserving the forests.
Second, the author says that in to get ecocertification companies will have to increase the price of wood and this will affect their sale. Conversely, the lecturer opposes this point by clearing that this process will lead only a small amount of rise in price that is five percent and the customers will consider the significance of certified wood and thus this insignificant difference in price will not change their mind to buy it.
Third, the reading states that the American wood companies sell most of their wood inside the country and thus they will not be willing to get the certificate just to keep up with other foreign companies. On the other hand, professor casts doubts on this point and clears that as mentioned above there are large amount of customers who will be interested in buying certified wood to support the eco friendly practices and if local companies will not provide them with the option of buying it then they will definitely buy it from the foreign companies. Hence, the companies will be compelled to keep pace with the other foreign companies to meet the demand of the consumers and thus they will have to change their policy sooner or later.
