In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important contributions.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
In the world of today, there are varied fields in which an individual can endavour to succeeed. However, in order to make a positive and lasting contribution in most of these fields, an adequate mixture of knowledge, ability, guidance, passion and luck is required. Therefore, a level of experience and expertise is needed, if an individual wishes to make an important contribution in any field of endavour. Thus, the statement "In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important contributions" does not hold true in general, though there may be exceptions.
An expert in any field of inquiry, has become so due to a deep passion for working in that particular field. An expert has the basic understanding of the field's area of work. He also knows the key areas where more work is needed to be done within that particular field of inquiry. Armed with his passion for work in his chosen field and the accumulated knowledge through endless hours of toil, an expert is better equipped to make a significant contribution in any field of inquiry than a novice. The field of science is a good example of this phenomenon. All the scientists who have made lasting contributions to the field have done so after spending many years of hard research in their fields. Most or all of the great scientists have finished their path breaking contributions in the later years of their lives.
It can be argued that in fields like sports where power and stamina are as necessary for victory as experience is, the statement "In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important contributions" will always hold true. However, it is not necessary. The reason being, for a person to become expert in the field of sports, it takes lesser number of years than say the field of science. A tennis player beginning his professional career at the age of 16 or 17 years can be considered an expert by the time he is 20-21 years old if he plays consistently. Same istrue for other sports like soccer as well. Hence, the best years for most of the sportsperson's career are the years from their early 20s to early 30s, because these are the years where they have the right mixture of sporting expertise and stamina to make significant contribution in their field. If we look at contemporary sports, the best players in any sports range from the age group of 20 ~ 33 years after having started their professioal careers in late teens.
Summing up,a beginner has the brimming enthusiasm and in some cases beginner's luck which can help him make some quick contributions in his field of inquiry. However,to make an important contribution aside from raw enthusiasm,an in-depth knowledge of the field and a first hand experiance of the life within the field is required. Such knowledge can be only gained by spending endless hours of hard toil with full concentration on the area of endavour which the particular field covers. These endless hours of concentrated work essentially turn a person into expert. Thus, an expert is more equipped to provide important contribution than a beginner, in any field of inquiry.
