Productivity and rewards
The reading and the lecture are both about productivity and rewards which is a approach to getting employees to work hard and to improvr productivity by rewards with money or company stock. According to the author it is considered a important management principle in many buisness enterprises whereas the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the reading. He thinks that it is kind of punishment because of the several reasons.
First of all, the author claims that rewards calculates the amount of increased productivity at work place. He belives that by giving rewards to the employees, the performane of the workers get improve and good results are seen. This point is challenged by the lecturer by considering this system as a punishment. He elobrates it by saying that all employees need respect rather than incentives or any reward. Furthermore, he thinks that productivity rewards are counterproductive that is due to this rewarding less productivity is done.
Secondly, the author of the reading thinks that typical buisness handbooks describing compensation methods advocate giving the greatest rewards to those who perform the best. The lecturer refutes this point. He belives that if the emplyee does not get the expected reward, he/ she may show disagreement and moreover reduce the quality of work.
Finally, the author of the reading also mentions that the people are rather like physical bodies that requie some external motivation force to be set in motion. Also, he mentions that if the reward are correctly structured, results will be remarkable. This point is challenged by the lecturer and he refutes it by saying that the employ of the work place may get disappoint when not reciving any reward and he thinks that the relation of the supervisor and the employ can be damaged.
Eventually, there may be a decrease in quality work and also in productivity.
In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all the claims and theories presented in the reading.
