The reading passage discussion is about diminished in the population of the yellow cedar and provides three reasons. However, the professor explaهns that the reasons mentioned in the text are not adequate.
First, the article states that the insect parasite; especially the cedar bark beetle are used to attack to the brak of trees and eat the wood and can damage the health of trees. On the contrary, the lecture declares that this type of trees is more resistance in front of the beetles in comparison with the other species. In fact, they have powerful chemical materials on their bark which is poisonous. So, when the beetle attacks to the tree, they will die with these chemical materials.
Second, the passage tells that the aggressive clawing of brown bears to eat the trees' bark that has an enormous amount of sugar which is compatible with the sugar of the wild berries that are the primary food for the brown bears. In contrast, the professor refutes this theory because the trees' population decline in the north-west in America in the off coats where there are not any bears. But they population decreasing in this area prove this fact that the bears are not a chief factor for our theory.
Third, the reading claims that the change in climate affects the time of root growth. In fact, the root grows in late of the winter instead of the first of the spring since they vulnerable to freeze and have this ability to weaken the health of trees. However, the lecture states the rate of decreasing in the number of the trees in high elevation is more than low elevation that proves this fact the root growth is not sensitive to freeze in the winter and weaken the health of trees.
