The passage mainly presents three methods to keep birds from getting injured because of glasses. However, the professor in the listening part casts a completely negative attitude towards each of three approaches mentioned in previous passage for the following reasons.
First off, the lecturer argues that these one-way glasses won't necessarily be useful because birds outside the buildings normally regard glasses as mirrors. This would engender a bad effect for birds because birds can not understand these mirrors as glasses. For example, when they see these reflections on the glasses as trees and the sky, they would still fly into glasses. Consequently, it still hurts birds physically as before. On the contrary, the reading believe the one-way glass can serve as an indication for birds not to fly thought it.
Second, according to the professor, the unpainted opening area birds see from outside would probably be considered as holes, which will lead birds to fly through. So only if the unpainted areas are extremely small, this situation cannot present itself again. But this would cause problems for people inside the building since the rooms would be too dark to work there. In contrast, the article suggests that the painted color would avoid birds try not to fly through these glasses while people can see out undoubtedly.
At last, as for the magnetic field proposed in the reading section, it is also questionable. This is because the magnetic compass only can be of use when birds travel a long distances trips such as migration from a cold area to relatively warm places, in this case, magnetic field will help them decide which way to fly. However, for the short-distance trip, they use eyes and bright lights to fly successfully to the location they want to reach. Therefore, this magnetic field would not be any of effect for birds at all.
