The reading passages discuss an interesting topic about the decline number of frog species around the world and provide extensive information and reasons for support why this is happening. However, the lecturer cast doubts on the reading passage claim by opposing to each of the reasons exposed.
First, the reading passage proposes to regulate the pesticides used by farmer that are harming the frog population. On the other hand, the lecturer sustains that reducing the pesticide will provoke a significant disadvantage from the farmers in the area affected in competition with farmers in other areas. The extra cost added to the production because of the lost of crops against the insects, would be unfair. Thus, the solution suggested by the reading passage is not reliable.
Secondly, the reading passage explains that frog population are declining because of a type of fungus that attack the frog skin, and as consequence, the population are dying of dehydration. Attacking this fungus with an antifungal medication would be the solution, according to the reading passage. On the contrary, the lecture explains how difficult the application of this treatment would be as it has to be applied directly to the frog, one by one. Also the treatment does not prevent the fungus pass to the offspring. Consequently, the treatment has to be repeated again and again to the next generation.
Finally, the reading passage suggests to protect lakes and marshes, usual habitat of the frog, by reducing the consume of water by human activities. The lecture opposes to this idea by reconsidering the global warming as the real cause of the dry out of lakes and marshes. Thus, the reduce of water use, and the protection of water reservoirs, will not going to resolve the problem.
