The article discusses the odds sounds, which so-called quackers, that have been heard by Russian submarine, which was patrolling the North Alantic and Arctic Ocean during 1960 to 1980. And provides three reasons of support. However, the professor states that there are many debates about the real cause of sound quackers and she refutes each of author’s reasons.
First, the reading states that the strange nosies were actually calls of ocra whales to attract mates. The professor refutes this point by stating that its true that ocra population were living at that area, but they live near the surface of the ocean. And yet, she says that submarine sailing are deep in oceans, therefore, they would not be able to hear ocra whales sounds or detect by sonar.
Second, the article posits that the sounds were caused by giant squid and it was difficult to detect by sonar because these giant marine are boneless and soft bodies. On the other hand, the professor explains that if the sounds were really caused by giant squid, the sounds would not disappear completely after two decades of being heard. For a reason is that, giant squid were always live there and continue to live there, so there is no reason to stop hearing the sounds.
Third, the reading claims that the Russian submarines were picking up sounds from secretly military submarines from another country patrolling in that area. The professor opposes this point by explaining submarines technology do not posses any technology that promote submarine to move or change directions so quickly. In addition to, submarines have noises from their engines. She concludes their is no submarine in the world posses silent engines and move so fast.
