The charts illustrate the levels of participation in education and science in both developing and industrialized countries in the year 1980 and 1990.
The first graph shows a comparison of the number of years alloted for education over a ten year period. In developing countries, there was a slight increase from 2.2 years in 1980 to 2.7 years in 1990. In 1980, the average years of schooling in industrialized countries was at 8.2 years, respectively which grew to 10.2 years in 1990, which is summed up by a marginal growth of 2% over the ten year comparison.
The number of scientists and technicians per 1000 population in developing countries in the year 1980 is at 10% which grew to 17% during the ten year duration. Meanwhile, in industrialized countries, the graph shows a massive increase, increase of about 29%, which was at 41% in 1980 and at 70% in 1990.
As for expenditures for research and development in developing countries, it decreased from 50 billion dollar in 1980 to 25 billion dollar in 1990. On the contrary, spendings of industrialized countries grew to 350 billion in 1990 compared to 160 billion in 1980.
In overall, it is concluded that, when compared to developing countries, industrialized have more years spent on education which produces more scientists and technicians. This also relates to the high level of expenditure alloted for research and development.
