The article states that edmontosaurus dinosaur survived the wintertime by migrating south to more hospital regions and provides three reasons of support. Conversely, the professor states that the article's hypotheseis is not convincing and she refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that the edmontosaur's diet supports the migration hypotheseis since the dinosaur fed on plants that available in the south area during cold climate. The professor opposes this point by explaining that despite of the fact that edmontoaur feeding on plants, the dinosaur did not have have to migrate. Climate temperature in the north region was much more warmer in the past, so it creates a good growing conditions for different plant species during the summer period. She explains also, even after the plants died during the winter, the dinosaur could feed on these deadly nutrious plants.
Second, the article avers that the dinosaur lived in herd supports the migration hypothesis. The profesor, on the other hand, states that edmonsaurs does not have to migrate even if its herd. There are other reasons for the dinosaur to lived herds, such as, for extra protection from predators. The professor provides an example of rossevia elks, that inhabit forsts in the United states, lived in herds and not migrated.
Third, the reading posits that edmonosaurs were physcially capable of migrating long distances, because of reaching highly speeds up to 45 km/hr. The professor, however, disagrees with this point by saying this is true for mature dinosaurs, but juvenile dinosaures do not have the physical capability to move long distances. Since herd would not leave behind their juveniles in the harsh climate, the would not migrate to other places. For the reasons that these not premature dinosaure would not able to survive during wintertime.
