The lecture and passage both discusses about methods of protecting frogs from extinction. The article proposes three methods that can be used in order to protect the frog population. The lecturer however, refutes to each and every method mentioned in the article.
First of all, the text suggests to prohibit farmers to use pesticides in the frog sensitive areas, as they are really harmful to them. The pesticides can attack frog's nervous system and can cause breathing problems. The speaker disagrees with this suggestion. He argues that the farmers will lose their crops to pests. They would not be able to remain competitive with the farmers in other region who are using the pesticides and producing crops in abundance. They will have to face severe economical loss.
In addition, the frogs are suffered with deadly fungal infections. So, in order to protect them, some anti-fungal treatments medications should be provided to the frogs. On the contrary, the professor posits that it is not a practical solution, because scientists will have to catch each individual frog for applying anti -fungal medication. Even after applying the medication, the frogs can still transmit the fungal infection to their offspring. They will have to reapply the medication to the newer frogs as well. It is not only expensive but also very complicated method.
Finally, one more proposal given by the author is to decline the use of water resources by the humans, that are especially breeding grounds for the frog population. The orator on the other hand disagrees with this solution and points out that the main problem is not the use of wetlands but global warming. The water in wetlands and lakes are getting dry due to global warming and not because of overuse by human activities and development.
