The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The line graph shows information about the expenditure of six different forms of energy in the USA since 1980 with forecasts until 2030.
Overall, it can be seen that there has been an increase in the number of various sources of energy until 2017. It is also exptected that this pattern will be followed by petrol and oil, coal and natural gas until 2030, while the consumption of nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower will remain low but steady by the year 2030.
In 1980, petrol and oil consumption stood at 35 quadrillion units, higher than the other five kinds of energy, and it is predicted to increase to more than 45 unit until 2030. Likewise, coal consumption has risen steadily from 1980 to 2017 and the prediction shows that this trend will continue until 2030, the gap between petrol and oil and coal will remain the same during the given period.Natural gas, followed a similar pattern from 1980 to 2017, after that it will remained stable at 25 units for the following thirteen years. In regard to solar/wind, hydropower and nuclear , these figures started at approximately 5 units in 1980, and then fluctuated slightly until 2008. It is clear that these figures will not rose significantly in the future.
