Both the passage and the lecture are talk about the causes of the population of sea otter’s declines. The author introduces some possibilities, however the lecturer explains the reason from a specific perspective. I shall explain in the following paragraph.
There are two possibilities about the decrease number of sea otters. First one is environmental pollution and the second one is predation. The lecturer agrees with the second option. The reason of declines couldn’t be about pollution because there are no dead-sea otters on seaside. From that point we can say that, sea otters killed by predators. The lecturer, also controvert the second point of the reading passage. Orcas generally prefer to hunt whales, but number of whales, also decrease because of another predators: humans. As a result, orcas had to hunt smaller sea mammals, such as sea lions. The last proof of the lecturer about the predation theory is, orcas are large animals, so they cannot access everywhere, and there is no decrease in number of sea otters in places where orcas couldn’t go.
