The Internet has made great contributions to the conquering of barriers that distance has set up in communication, but at the same time it reduces the face-to-face contact between us and those right around us. In my opinion, the Internet is indeed an important tool for staying in touch with friends all over the world but it should not be held responsible for isolation.
With the aid of the Internet, communication is much more efficient and interesting. Firstly, it takes just seconds at most to send a message via the Internet. Compared with ancient times when letters took days, weeks, or even months to reach the recipient, communication with the Internet is much less time-consuming. Also, there are now various forms of messages available for us to choose. For instance, we can either send e-mails or have video chats with friends we do not see on a daily basis, enabling us to maintain a close relationship with those far away from us. Furthermore, pictures and videos that record our everyday life can be uploaded onto the Internet and shared with others instantly, letting us share our experiences with those who are not with us.
From another perspective, some may argue that the Internet has given rise to people to neglecting socializing in real life, but that is not really the case. Socialization is the interaction between individuals and groups, and communication through the Internet should also be considered as a type of socialization. Moreover, whether or not one is addicted to Internet interaction is not determined by the Internet; on the contrary, it is an outcome due to his personality.
In conclusion, the Internet is an excellent tool for joining people all over the world, and does not advocate unsociability.
