TPO 04_ Integrated task
The author of the reading passage asserts that unlike modern reptiles, dinosaurs were endotherms_ meaning they were able to maintain their body temperature in different environments. However, the lecturer refutes the arguments presented in the lecture by making use of scientific facts.
First, dinosaurs' fossils found in polar regions is not a good reason for believing that these creatures were endotherms. Scientific evidence shows that during dinosaurs' era the environmental conditions had been very different from today; Some periods of the year had been warmer, and thus, suitable for dinosaurs' living, while they could have migrated or hibernated during the rest of the year, when the weather had been cold. So this is the fossils are not good reasons to believe dinosaurs were endotherm.
Second, leg position is not cogent argument too. The reason for leg positions could have been not for running, but merely for supporting dinosaurs' huge weight. This contradicts with the argument stated in the reading.
Third, in addition to canals, dinosaurs had growth rings. Growth rings are used to thicken bones. They do not demonstrate that dinosaurs were rapidly growing. These growth rings actually prove that dinosaurs used to undergo successive periods of rapid and slow growing. Consequently, there is another contradiction between the reading passage and the lecture.
