Many people have been debating what would be the best way to motivate people. Some people propose that money is the best tool, whereas others oppose this proposal. Although money help motivate people, I believe that giving money is not the best way to motivate people.
To begin with, nowadays people earn enough money to make ends meet. Some people are satisfied with their income and happy. When people are content with the current situation, money really won't help make people work harder. Only those who want more money will be attracted by money.
Second, in modern society, people are working for long hours and often stressed out. We need more vacation to relax, travel, or spend time with friends and family. For example, in Japan we do not have much vacation. Companies usually give us only ten days of vacation per year. I have heard many people complaining about how little time off we get. Therefore, if a company give us more vacation, it would be the great motivation for us.
Third, public recognitions or promotions can be the good way to motivate people work harder. When people receive a public recognition, they gain confident. When people receive promotion, they gain more power in a company, and often their salary increase. Moreover, these will be useful for their future.
To sum up, the money is not the best way to motivate people because people already earn a good salary to have a comfortable life. On top of that, more vacation, public recognitions and promotions are more valuable than extra money.
