When people play games it helps them see the other side of a person and they forget their differences. Two countries leaders might not get on well together - but get two of the countries teams together and they can become good friends off the sports field.
In most cases, games are just a kind of fun. But some games like "Bridge", a card game, need the cooperation which helps people to unite.
Also in some games like football and basketball, people must work together and forget their differences so that they can defeat their rivals. Obviously it is a good way to unite people.
