Governments should focus on solving the immediate problems of today rather than on trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.
The focus of every government is to solve problems facing the institutions they govern, be it a country, school, private organization or even religious body, in an attempt to making such institutions a better place for the members. Different leaderships take different approaches to solving the problems they are faced with. Which ever approach any government takes, it should be such that the full potentials and gains are maximized.
Sometimes short term solutions can be a quick win to a problem that has ravaged a society and at the same time, lay foundation for a long run solution. When man had the challenge of light from the beginning, he sort a quick win and knocked two stones together to produce light. That was a quick win; a short term solution that gave him insight on how to solve the future problem.
When he solved the immediate problem, his eyes were opened to the bigger picture which is, that this problem will re-occur tomorrow and would he resort to the time consuming solution of hitting a stone against the other? No one could tell how many times the early man hit two stones together before he achieved the first fire. Suppose during darkness, he is attacked by a wild animal, how would he combat the challenge. What he did was to study the short term solution, identified the characteristics of the objects that lead to the production of the fire. From there, he developed a match box, and today, we have different sources that can produce fire at the speed of light.
However, not all solutions will be achieved using short term techniques, even if the problem is an immediate problem that requires an immediate solution. In such situations what could be done is to study the problem and provide a systemic approach to solving it. For such a problem, the leaders would have envisaged it long before. Suppose they neglected it when it was identified and focused on solving the immediate problems the society faced then, what would be their faith now that the problem must be solved? They will have to wait for as long as it will take to solve the problem and so many damages may occur before the solution arrives.
It can be seen that paying attention to both immediate and future problems will be a win-win situation for the society and its people. When a future problem is neglected, it might be one that when the need arises, a lot of damages would have been done before a solution is achieved. Therefore, government should take a calculated approach in considering problems to attend to. While taking care of the immediate problems, they should also ensure that future problems are attended to so that when the need arises, there will not be any need for hush-hush solution.
