College Students Should Be Encouraged To Pursue Subjects That Interest Them Rather Than The Courses That Seem Most Likely To Lead To Jobs.
The main objective of education is learning and enhancing the knowledge. At school level various subjects should be the part of curriculum to build basic understandings of the subjects , which help the students to find the subjects in which they are interested. At college level students should be encouraged to select subjects according to their interest rather than the courses that seem most likely to lead to jobs.
If subject is of the interest of student , he will study it in proper manner and will acquire knowledge while pursuing the subject. He will perform well in the respective subject that will automatically lead to job in the appropriate field. If students are encouraged to pursue subjects that lead to jobs only, are not of their interest, they wont study it with that passion and try to memorize the subjects to get the job. This leads to lack of proper learning and knowledge . There is also a possibility that after getting the job student will be dissatisfied with his job or won't able to perform well in his position.
For example a student wants to learn music and because of greater possibilities of jobs in Information Technology (IT) sector his guardians pressurized him to take the computer science. Somehow he has cleared the exams and joined the job in a Multinational company. But there because of inadequacy of proper knowledge and concepts, company has thrown him out. Now he is not able to pursue his interest and not eligible of job in IT sector.
So to prevent this type of situations college students should be encouraged to pursue subjects that interest them rather than the courses that seem most likely to lead to jobs.
