The following appeared in a letter from a homeowner to a friend.
"Of the two leading real estate firms in our town—Adams Realty and Fitch Realty—Adams Realty is clearly superior. Adams has 40 real estate agents; in contrast, Fitch has 25, many of whom work only part-time. Moreover, Adams' revenue last year was twice as high as that of Fitch and included home sales that averaged $168,000, compared to Fitch's $144,000. Homes listed with Adams sell faster as well: ten years ago I listed my home with Fitch, and it took more than four months to sell; last year, when I sold another home, I listed it with Adams, and it took only one month. Thus, if you want to sell your home quickly and at a good price, you should use Adams Realty."
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.
Here author gives a strong suggestion to his friend that if you want to sell your home quickly and at good price then use Adams Real Estate firm with many flawed reasons. To support his suggestions he gives his experience and some statics regarding revenue and real estate agents. However to get good price for home wheather these factors are helpful or not ?it should be taken into consideration.
Homeowner claims that Adams Realty Estate is superior because it has 40 real estate agents whereas Fitch Realty has 25,many of them are only part time. Here he assumed that only full time workers are productive, but this may be possible that part time workers have more contacts as they are working with different work environment. So part time workers will attract more customers and give more efficient service to them.
Then Homeowner says about revenue of Adams is twice of Fitch here we can not say if revenue is greater means firm should have greater profit or that firm is more productive than other. Moreover he says about his experience about selling home with Fitch,10 years ago and it took more than four months. It may be possible that at 10 years ago market condition is not so good, there may be some recession at real estate market. This may also possible that home was not at good condition to sell at good price and as per customer's requirement. Then he shares experience with Adams which is 1 year ago and at that time Adams sold the home at one month.Again here we should look at market condition for selling home and home's condition also.
Hence I would say that Adams estate will help in selling home quickly but not to give good price as it not mentioned clearly in the given argument.
