The assertion that as people rely more and more on technology to solve problems , the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate is a controversial one. On one hand, it can be clearly seen that the reliance of humans on technology has gone beyond limits and they have become totally addicted to technology these days. On the other hand, technology has been useful in reducing tedious and monotonous work of humans giving them more time for recreational activities. However in the final analysis , the ability of humans will not deteriorate if they rely on technology more.
Firstly, the fact which is well comprehended is that technology is invented by humans. Since humans are not invented by technology, it can never match up human mind. These days, for example technology like washing machine, cleaners, huge industrial machines, etcetera have helped a lot in reducing tedious human work giving them more time to develop as individuals and engage their minds in more aptitudinal activities so that they can keep on thinking for improving and updating current technologies. It is not at all required to do jobs anymore which doesn’t induce any mental activities and those which just requires physical labour.
Secondly, it is very apt to use technologies which can save human time and energy these days because time is very precious. For example, an electrical engineer can use simulation tools like SPICE until desired circuitry is achieved instead of wasting his energy by plugging in wires for each and every small change in circuit. So the focus here is to not only saving time but also saving energy which could turn out to be useful in developing some more human friendly machinery. It is not at all wrong to make huge calculations using calculators as calculators have been purposefully developed to accomplish this task. Moreover, usage of technology guarantees error free task and are totally precise and accurate.
However, with this much advent of technology these days, humans should not become slaves to it. In older days, people were able to do complex mathematical calculations. In contrast, today humans are so much hampered with technology that they don’t want to engage their brains in such activities. These would lead to nothing but dull minds and then humans won’t be able to come up with new innovations and technologies. Keeping brain sharp by indulging in mental abilities is very important because when technology fails and systems go down, only humans can repair and improvise them. Despite these facts, humans should not stop relying on technology for their work but should focus in its balanced used instead.
In a nutshell, relying on technology can prove to be very advantageous to the society and not necessarily lead to deterioration of brains.
