The author presents an argument, that promoting well-being of society and nature is duty of corporation or not.The basis of society is co-existence, and thus it is imperative to rise above selfish monetary motives and to inculcate it as habit to make world a better place to live in.Thus, I completely agree with the above argument.
First, society comprises of people and corporations are an intricate part of it.As a citizen it is responsibility of every individual to contribute to the society. In the same way corporations to have their duties. There are many ways in which corporations can improve the conditions of people among which they work, such as opening schools, colleges, community centers, recreation, health centers etc. Indirectly, it will help them only as good education means more skilled labor force available. Moreover, recreational centers, health centers will provide them workforce which is healthier, can work better, and is in good state of mind.
The founder of Microsoft "Bill Gates" and many other industrialist such as "Warren Buffet" are well renowned for their philanthropic works. It in turn helps to create better working environment, people put more faith in their policies, workers are able to relate better to them. Turning next to environmental factor, I think it is foremost duty of corporation to make sure that proper and routine measures are taken .For instance, many a times people stand against a corporation when they are degrading environment in an area, and they had to suffer huge losses shifting there business elsewhere. Some may claim, that the purpose of corporation is to make money and not charity. But, here we need to contemplate that if this is the case every one will run from their duties towards society and nature. These would in long term will be very deleterious for the whole world as whole.
In the light of above points,it can be justified that corporations do have a responsibility to work for the well-being and interest of societies and environment as they are core financial structure of the society. Also, favorable conditions would lead to positive attitude from the people where they operate. Thus, one can conclude, that in short term it may not seem profitable, but it is sure to give fruitful gains in long term.
