Given are the charts providing data regarding to the marriage and divorce rates of the USA citizens from 1970 to 2000, in addition to comparing the figures for the adults’ marital statuses in 1970 to the ones in 2000.
According to the first bar chart, on the premise of the given period marriage rates of Americans were 2.5 times greater than divorce rates. From that time on, the number of marriages maintained at the same level until 1980, after that it started to fall down gradually bottoming out in 2000, when it reached to 2mln. When it comes to the divorces, their amount hit peak showing rise by 0,4mln in 1980, then that increase was followed by slow downfall until getting to its initial level, which was 1mln, again in 2000.
Referring to the second chart, it can be said that, the number of divorced and never married mature people was relatively higher, while the quantity of married and widowed adults was marginally less in 2000 compared to those in 1970 (10%, 20%, 60% and 5% vs. 3%, 15%, 70% and 6%).
Overall, apparently, over given time span, marriage rates dropped, whereas divorce rates maintained unchanged.
