Media are an extremely important factor of our life. Presented graph shows the percentage of UK inhabitants (over 4 years old) using radio and TV throughout an average day during Autumn 1992.
The radio usage at 6 am. is about 7 per cent. However it steadily rises reaching almost 30 per cent at about half past eight. That is the peak time and afterwards the percentage of users gradually lowers reaching about 1 per cent in the early morning.
Nevertheless, the situation with television is completely different. In the early morning there is merely no one that would watch the TV. The major rise can be seen in the late afternoon (four to six pm.) reaching its high at about 8 pm. (almost 50 per cent of researched). After that, the percentage begins to fall reaching its low of about 1% at 3 am.
Concluding, people used to listen to the radio mostly during their work time. The percentage of radio and television users equals at about half past 1 pm. when people start to come back home from work. In the afternoon television indisputably beats radio as many people watch it in order to relax after work (often turning their TV sets off not until midnight).
