Nowadays, space tourism has become a reality for some wealthy people. Some people think that this type of holiday will become more popular and less expensive in the future. Do you think a trend to such a holiday would be more of an advantage or disadvantage for society in the future? Give your opinion and some relevant examples to support your ideas.
The past 50 years have witnessed an increase in transnational travel across the world. Many holiday-makers believe that space travel will be made possible in the future thanks to remarkable developments in technology and other fields and will be beneficial to the society as a whole. However, in my opinion, despite its generally acknowledged benefits, space tourism can be disadvantageous due to several reasons.
To begin with, a plausible reason for opposing the popularity of this trend could be its cost. Unlike other types of tourism such as domestic and international ones, space travel is definitely more expensive as it requires enormous financial investment, ranging from health training sessions for customers to adequate surveillance systems. Although there has been technological advancements in recent years, it is indisputable that this new type of holiday is still a prerogative of the wealth because of the significantly high price. Therefore, I am of the opinion that space travel cannot thrive in the near future.
Additionally, another justification is that mankind is facing numerous problems that need huge budget to be solved. If the governments pour too much money into space tourism, other alarming tasks will be delayed, affecting social stability in the long term. Vietnam, where poor segment of population still accounts for a large proportion and children in remote and mountainous areas cannot access sufficient education, could be taken as a particularly salient example of this. In other words, these issues, if can be alleviated or solved completely, will be of benefit to more people than such holiday which serves only the privileged. Furthermore, it probably widens the gap between the rich and the poor, causing more headache and confusion for the authorities.
In conclusion, from my own point of view, space travel will not become popular, at least in the foreseeable future. It thus should take the backseat in the priority list for the sake of the society.
