The table chart compares types of transport in terms of average miles travelled during a 15-year period starting from 1985
From an overall perspective, while the figure for car, long distance bus, train, taxi and other vehicles showed an upward trend, the opposite trend was true for the others. Additionally, it is clear that the car category recorded the highest figure throughout the period given.
In 1985, car had the biggest miles with 3,199, followed by other vehicles, with 450 miles. 15 years later, the figure for car witnessed a dramatic growth to nearly 5000 while the 'other' category stood at 585 miles. Meanwhile, a similar trend was seen in long distance bus, train and taxi with a significant increase at 124, 366 and 42 miles respectively in 2000.
In terms of the remaining, there were 429 miles by local bus in 1985, which was higher than that of walking and bicycle, at 255 and 51 miles respectively. In the following 15 years, the data for local bus dropped considerably to 274 miles. The figure for walking and bike experienced a slight decline to 237 and 41 miles in 2000.
