The bar chart compares the different modes of transport to get to work in Grahamston in two years, 1996 and 2001. It is clearly seen that preferred choice of transport to work did not change significantly between 1996 and 2001, over a five years period. In both period of time, the mode of transport used were car, truck, private vehicle, bicycle, public transport, ferry, aeroplanes, cycling and walking.
In 1996, the least used transport were bicycle(2%). On closer analysis, moderate number of people used private vehicle, public transport, walking and other transport(taxi, cycling, ferry, aeroplanes) with a rate of 11%, 10%, 7% and 9% respectively, which was about five times more than cycling to work. On the other hand, driving was the most famous mode of transport (57%). In addition to that, a small number of people worked at home (6%), therefore do not need any transport to work.
In 2001, a similar trend is seen, eventhough there is slight variation in the rates of people who worked. As the world develop, walking has become the least favourable mode of transport to work. Nevertheless, a number of people still goes to work by private vehicle, public transport, bicycle and other transport ( taxi, cycling, ferry, aeroplanes) with a rate of 7%, 10%, 4% and 9% respectively. Similar to year 1996, driving to work is still the most popular mode of transport (68%), with a 11% rise. As compared to 1996, more people are working from home(9%) in year 2001.
In conclusion, a similar trend of driving to work as the favourite transport are observed in both years. The other subtle trend seen is the slow rise in people who work from home, which means an increasing number of people not needing any transport to work.
