The bar chart depicts the sales and rentals situation in an audiovisual shop from 2001 to 2011. Sales are further divided in three categories: VHS, DVD and Blu-ray. Overall, it is clear how hiring and VHS vending constantly decreased over this period, whereas Blu-ray increased the sales. In contrast, DVD sales rose until 2007, but their number slightly decreased afterwards. They were, moreover, the most common item sold from 2004 to 2011.
As far as rentals are concerned, they showed a constant decline, from 185.000 rentals per year in 2002 to just under 60.000 in 2011. VHS sales followed a similar pattern, but in a shorter time, in fact, they decreased from 85.000 in 2002 to completely disappear in 2006.
Blu-ray vending replaced VHS one, in fact, they appeared on the market in 2007 and slightly increased until 2011, when they registered about 11.000 sales. In contrast, DVD sales followed a different trend. They gradually increased in number until 2007, where they reached a peak of about 215.000 sales, and then slightly declined of about 30.000 by 2011.
