The given graph depicts the transportation of goods by four modes from 1974 to 2002 in the UK. Where, the transportation modes are road, water, rail, and pipeline.
At a first glance, it is vivid that most of the goods were transported by road during the aforesaid period. In 1974, it was around 70 million tonnes then it had been steadily boomed and arrived at almost 98 million tonnes in 2002. Moreover, the usage of water was constantly remained same till 1978 afterwards it had been hiked by approximately 25 million tonnes in the end of the said period in comparison to 1974.
Additionally, it can be seen that there was fluctuation in the rail mode between 1974 and 1994. Even though, it had been gradually increased and reached at around 40 million tonnes in 2002. Furthermore, the usage of pipeline was meager 5 million tonnes in the initial year after that it was dramatically climbed till 1994. However, it was remained exactly same thereafter.
Laconically, it is crystallized that most of goods transported by road and water while the usage of all modes had been gradually enhanced except railway between the said period in the UK.
