According to the pie chart, the major causative factor for the decline in productive capacity of agricultural land all over the globe is over-grazing, accounting for 35percent. It is followed by deforestation and over-cultivation, at 30percent and 28percent, respectively.

The table provides information regarding sources of land degradation in North America, Europe and Oceania, specifically during the 1990s. In North America, total land degraded was 5percent, of which 3.3percent was due to over-cultivation. In Europe, total area affected was 23percent, of this 9.8percent was due to deforestation. In Oceania, which constitutes Australia and New Zealand, total degraded land was 13percent, of which 11.3 percent was due to over-grazing. In Oceania, over-cultivation didn’t account for any damage to farming land.
