As per the chart the major causes for worldwide land degradation in 1990s happened to be over-grazing, deforestation and over-cultivation accounting for 35, 30 and 28 percent respectively. Other reasons account for the rest 7 percent.

Focusing on the facts provided by the table, it is clear that Europe registered highest percentage of land degradation amongst the given regions; that is 23%, with deforestation being the prime reason (9.8%). In contrast, Oceania with the second highest percentage of land degradation (13%), the main cause of land degradation turned out to be over-grazing with 11.3%. Whereas North America with the totally different trend shows the major cause of land degradation to be over-cultivation.

Summarizing the points, it is remarked that there is a varying trend in causes of land degradation across different subcontinents.
