People in England prefer to use their private car than public transportation to travel in local places or long distance places. It shows from the table that mode of travel used by car are far higher than local bus or long distance bus. Travelling by car reached up to 3.129 miles per person in a year while 429 miles by local bus and 54 miles by long distance bus per person in 1985. Even it was much higher in 2000 for people to travel by car which reached up to 4.806 miles per year for a person, 274 miles travelled by local bus and 366 by local distance bus.
For some other mode of travel such as walking and bicycle the miles travelled by them are 255 and 51 respectively in 1985 and 237 and 41 in 2000. But the miles travelled by public transportation in 2000 were increasing.
We can conclude that the use of car in a big city of England are still far higher in 2000 compare to other travel modes.
