The pie charts illustrate how much a UK school spent on various running costs in three separate years: 1981, 1991 and 2001. It is immediately apparent that teachers’ salaries and insurance showed the highest and the lowest of costs over all periods.
In all three years, teachers’ salaries had the greatest expenditure. Teachers’ salaries in 1981 used 40% of total costs and reaching just half of spending by 1991. This figure remained in the largest rate in spite of a slight fall to 45% in 2001. In contrast, other workers’ salaries experienced a decreasing trend from 28% in 1991 to 15% in 2001.
While resources such as books tended to increment over the first ten years (15%-20%), dropped to 9% by 2001. Furniture and equipment showed an opposite trend, a significant decrease from 15% to 5% and finally a dramatically increase to 23% of total expenditure at the end of period. However, insurance had the least expenditure in all mentioned years, grew slightly from 2% in 1991 to 8% in 2001.
