Given is the bar chart revealing the proportion of people who lived alone from 1850 to 200 in selected age groups in the USA.
Overall, it is immediately apparent that the figures of people living alone of all ages witnessed a similar upward trend over the given period.
As can be seen from the chart, it is noticeable that Americans aged 55-64 accounted for a significant proportion of around 3% to 17% which is also the highest during this time frame; followed by those aged 47-54 reaching 13% over 150 years. Furthermore, the percentage of people who lived by themselves in the age of 37-46 rose gradually in all measured years which was also the same with those aged 47-54 just over 25. However, when it comes to 2000, these figures turned to the 4th rank at 7%.
Turning to other remaining groups, Americans aged 17-26 and 27-36 did not start living alone until 1900, beginning at just above 2%. Thereafter, it increasing gradually, ending the period at approximately 5% and 7%, respectively in 2000
