Overall, it can be seen that there was an upward trend regarding the portion of citizens aged 65 and over of the total number of people in both 3 surveyed countries over a period of 5 decades. Meanwhile, Germany was the leading country in terms of the proportion of the elderly.
In 1980, 15% of the total German population were dwellers aged over 65 years old, which was relatively higher than that of Canada and the UK with the figures were 14% and 10%, respectively. After 20 years, Germany still dominated first place with one-fifth of the population being the old generation. In contrast, the gap between Canada and the UK regarding the proportion of older citizens disappeared, also reaching a threshold of 15%.
At the end of the period, the ratio between the old and the young in Canada was 22%, which surpassed the UK to rank the second position. Besides, the proportion of elderly people in Germany continued to rise, reaching a peak of 25%, which was the highest recorded figure according to the chart.
