The bar chart illustrates the proportion of boys and girls who participated in various sports in New Zealand in 2002.
It is noticeable that there were significantly difference between boys and girls who took park in most of those sports. However, the percentage of boys and girls played Basketball and Tennis were similar.
Among girls, the percentage of girls playing netball was just over 25%, slightly higher than that of girls enjoying swimming, at about 22%. Approximately 8% and 7% of girls played Tennis and Basketball. While 6% of girls took part in Soccer and 5% of girls participated Marital arts and Cricket. Finally, the proportion of girls enjoyed other sports to reach around 10%.
In contrast, a mere 1% of boy played Netball, which was the lowest recorded figure. The sports with the highest participation figure were Soccer, Swimming and Cricket, with nearly 25%, 13% and 12% respectively. These were followed by Marital arts, Tennis and Basketball which had figures of between 11% and 8%. About 10% of boys took part in other sports.
