The pie charts provide a breakdown of household which spent 4 different essential goods in China for the years 1995 and 2011.

Overall,the percentage of food and clothing saw a downward trend, wherease proportion of medicine and household goods experienced an opposite trend.

The percentage of food saw the highest index, in household budget for necessities in China,at 68% whilst the proportion of clothing made up approximately one in five in the year 1995. The percentage of food decreased by 9% in 2011. The figure for clothing declined by 1 percent from 19 % to 18 % in 2011.

Household goods and medicine ranked as third and fourth, in household budget for necessities in China, with 9 % and 4 % respectively. The proportion of household goods increased to 12% in 2001. The percentage of medicine (in 2001) almost third as much as comprising its index in 1995.
