The bar chart compares the proportion of adults with excess weight in four different countries over the next 3 decades from 1980 to 2000.
Overall, it can be seen that while the largest percentage of overweight adults were in the USA, Japan had the lowest percentage and that the USA experienced the most significant changes.
In 1980, the percentage of overweight adults in the USA and Australia stood at about 15% and 7.5% respectively. For the following ten years, while the percentage of overweight adults increased exponentially in the USA and accounted for 23%, Australia experienced a steady increase to about 10%. However, in 2000, the percentage raised significantly in both countries and comprised of about 20% for Australia and about 30% for the USA.
The percentage of adults with excess weight in Finland constituted at 7% in 1980 and then there was a slight increase by 7% in 1990, after ten years the percentage raised steadily to 10%. The percentage for Japan was the lowest among all countries which accounted no more that 4% in all years.
