The three given pie charts delineate five distinctive types of books which were sold by a bookseller over the forty years period starting 1972. As an overall trend, it is crystal-clear that fiction books gained popularity while sales of biography and others decreased from 1972 to 2012.
Categorically speaking, in 1972, mature and children's fiction and also biography had the same sales percentages with 20% for each of them. Additionally, while adult and children's books went up slightly to 25% and 22%, respectively, biography sales came down slowly to less than a fifth in 1992. Whereas the sales of other books which has the highest proportion of sales by 25%, dropped to 20%, travel's showed a slow rise to 18% until 1992.
Looking at the pie charts in more detail, in 2012, adult fiction made up the main sales books with 45% and followed by children's books with a quarter. Contrary of that, the sales of the rest of the books illustrated downward trends, namely other books with 12%, travel books with 10% and lastly biography by 8%.
