The chart below show the sleep patterns of people in five different occupations to a Canadian study.

The table given illustrates how the professional lives of people have a significant impact on determining the manner in which they sleep as per the recent survey of individuals belonging to five different types of occupations in Canada.

To begin with, students sleep for at least 8 hours from 11 pm to 7 am. The primary reason for this is that they spend a huge part of their day studying at school which usually work during daytime. Another group of people who take sound sleep is the business executives, but because of their highly demanding lifestyle, they sleep for about 6 hours on average, getting up early in the morning at around 5 am.

On the contrary, there are variations in the sleeping patterns of a truck driver. This could be possibly because they make night journeys to transport goods to different places and do not get enough time to complete their sleep. Hence, they take a small nap for an hour or two whenever time permits. The second profession with an irregular sleep schedule is that of the doctors. They usually go to bed at 1 am to wake up at 7, but may have to get up early sometimes in case of an emergency.
Mothers usually sleep after putting their babies to bed, however, may have to get up past midnight to comfort them back to sleep. Furthermore, they also take rest for about 2-3 hours in the afternoon after completing daily chores.

Thus, it can be concluded from the above table that sleeping schedules are severely affected by the kind of job performed by an individual. Thus, it becomes an important point to be considered before choosing an occupation.
