The chart below shows the amount of time that 10 to 15-year-olds spend chatting on the Internet and playing on games consoles on an average school day in the UK.
The graph compares the number of hours spent by teenagers in the UK on two different activites.
Overall, it is clear that the 10 to 15-year-olds in the UK use more time to play on games consoles than to chat on the Internet. However, a different trend can be observed between the figures for boys and girls.
According to the data, almost 70% of young students spend time playing on games consoles, which is slightly higher than those of chatting on the Internet. Among the ones who play video games, almost half of them play less than an hour per day while only a small percentage spends 4 hours or more. A similar pattern can be seen for those who enjoy chatting on the Internet.
Approximate 85% of boys in the age of 10-15 play video games on a daily basis while only half of the girls engage in this activity. By contrast, the figures for the percentage of girls who enjoy chatting on the Internet is much higher than that of boys and it also outnumbers the figure for girls who play video games.
