From 1961 to 2001, the line graph illustrates the percentage of households in Great Britain that had no car, one car, or two or more cars.

Overall, car ownership in the UK has increased during this period. Cars seem to be more popular among UK households, with the percentage of households owning one, two, or more cars increasing between 1961 and 2001.

Looking at data more closely, the percentage of households without a car was highest in 1961, with roughly 65 percent of households without a car, making it the most common type. This was followed by families with one car at around 35%, which was roughly half of the number for car-free households. Finally, the percentage of households with two or more cars seemed to be the least common in 1961, with zero values.

In 2001, the percentage of UK households owning a car increased, in particular, the number of households with a car increased steadily, from 35% in 1961 to about 45% in 2001, and the percentage peaked in 1981, at 50%. In addition, the number of households owning two or more cars in the UK also increased rapidly, from 0% in 1961 to 30% in 2001, and cars seem to be common, while the figure for those without a car dropped.
