The line graph compares the proportion of female parliament members in five different countries between 2000 and 2012

It is clear that all the percentage of female members of parliament increased over the research period. Additionally, the figure for the UK experienced the most significant change.

In 2000, Germany had the highest percentage of female parliament members, at about 34%, followed by Italy, France, and Belgium was approximately 27 %, 25%, and 17% respectively. The figure for the Uk was nearly one-seventh of Germany, at around 5%. From 2004 to 2010, the percentage of Germany female parliament members rose slowly from 33% to 36%. At the same time, the figures for female members of parliament in the UK, Belgium, and Italy increased sharply.

By 2012, the proportion of Italian female parliament members rose to just under 40% and became the highest figure in the line graph compared to about 37% of Germany female members. There was a rise of 3% after the sudden fall in the proportion of female members of parliament in France form 2004 to 2008 in 2012 in comparison with 28% of the figures for Belgium and the UK.
