The chart below shows three different types of crime in England and Wales from 1970 to 2005

The given line chart illustrates the trend and the amount of three kinds of crimes between 1970 and 2005 in England and Wales.

Overall, it is evident that all the number of these three crimes increased, although, in some periods, they showed a downward trend, in the end, all of these were higher than their original number.

To specify, the amount of car theft gradually increased from 1970 to 1990, the rate of increase was 15%. In the next 5 years, it peaked at 1.6 million from 1 million, then dropped sharply back to 1 million in 2005 as same as in 1990. The trend of house burgling was opposite with car shift, in the first decade, it soared with a 35% rate, especially around 1980, it was a particular period that the number of house burgling was the highest than car theft and street robbery. After that, it declined with some fluctuations. In 2005, it decreased to 0.3 million. Moreover, the amount of street robbery was relatively stable, it grew slightly from 0.1 million to 0.4 million over the period.

Interestingly, street robbery which with the least number of three kinds of crimes had the highest rate of rise (30%), house burgling and car theft at the same rate (15%).
